Marine Dreams

Dorkfish Boatworks, LLC has founded the Winchester Boat Yard, and our first commission is underway. To be launched Memorial Day 2010, this one-of-a-kind vessel may well float, and perhaps be capable for forward movement. Here are some photos of our first four weekends worth of work. We ordered the plans on-line, and have purchased the necessary marine-grade plywood, mahogany lumber, and bronze nails and screws. These pix show the transfer of the component parts from the blueprints to the lumber, the shocking bald spot of the head foundryman, the construction of a form on which the boat is being built, and the basic component frame members taking shape. The plans call for a 10-foot boat, but we have somehow gained an additional inch in the process. This process is not only bigger than us, it's bigger than its own blueprints. Extraordinary. Stay tuned.
P.S. We welcome progress reports from the Sladek and Young, our respected but outmatched competitors in the Great Adirondack Boat Build-Off.

And we're off (but not by much).

We welcome you to our brand spankin' new blog, which we hope will be somewhat amusing, seldom informative, and only just barely appropriate for all ages (depending on your standards).

A primary motivating factor for this launch is to keep our public apprised of our progress in building our floating magnum opus -- the 10-foot speedboat that we are building in our garage. This will be of particular interest to the cousins (that's you, Sladek and Young) who made the mistake of challenging us to a boat-building race. Suck it, boys.
